Ghost Tide

“Ghost Tide” is my commentary on the impact of ghost nests and fishing net debris on ocean life and aims to capture the struggle of a dolphin’s entanglement as well as the tarnished luster of the marine world due to pollution.  This piece is not available for sale.

This sculpture’s form- which is in cold aluminum – has a faded shimmering metallic patina which speaks to the fading beauty of the life of single dolphin.

I have experienced the scourge of fishing net debris and ghost nets first hand, and know that this silent crisis is worthy of attention and action.

My Process
I start by creating a sculpture from soft clay. From this original sculpture I create a silicone mould into which my casting material is poured to make a permanent edition of the original clay piece. Once I remove the piece from the mould, the finishing process is started, which entails cleaning and buffing the cast and applying various paint and oxidizing techniques to create a unique patina for every piece.
